Darrell and Robin Melton - Artisan Potters
Darrell has been throwing pottery on the wheel for about 12 years. He studied pottery at The Art League School in Alexandria, Virginia for five years and moved to New Bern, North Carolina in January of 2019. He spent a year working in the studio at the New Bern Arts and Wellness Center. He opened his own pottery studio in March of 2020. Darrell’s work can be seen at the New Bern Farmers Market most Saturdays, March – December.
His goal as a potter is to make unique functional pottery that, although influenced by other potters, has its own visual aesthetic. He works primarily in light colored mid-fire clay that provides durability and beauty.
He is a 26-year Navy Veteran, retiring from the Navy in 2000 and he retired from Government Service after 14 years at the end of 2018.
Robin has been hand-building clay creations for about three years. She tends to be more artsy in her designs and less practical, although she does create some functional ware. Her work can also be seen at the New Bern Farmers Market.
Her goal is far simpler than Darrell's, she just wants to have fun making unique creations.
She is a 24 year Navy wife and retired Maryland Park Ranger!
